The bond between GCL and kids of Quake-stricken areas in Sichuan
On May 12, 2008, an 8.0-scale severe earthquake hit Wenchuan of Sichuan. On hearing the news, GCL lent a helping hand to the severely-stricken Xinglong Township, Guanghan City of Sichuan, by donating 500,000 yuan for rebuilding Xinglong Township Central Primary School, which was renamed Guanghan Xinglong Township “GCL Hope Primary School” after its completion. On December 2, 2009, the Donation and Foundation-laying Ceremony for “GCL Hope Primary School” was held. Renzo Isler, GCL General Manager, donated the fund and 200 new schoolbags and stationery to the school on behalf of the company. In 2010, the rebuilt teaching building erected on the campus. It is a four-story-tall building with floor space of 2,200 square meters, which can accommodate 700+ students. It is also equipped with advanced teaching facilities like multimedia classroom, greatly improving the basic educational conditions. On November 18, 2010, the Ceremony for Opening of “GCL Hope Primary School” and Donation was held in the school, where GCL donated a number of teaching equipment including computers to the school, in addition to sports products like basketballs, table tennis bats, battledores and chesses.

GCL and kids of Yunnan mountainous areas
In remote mountainous areas of Sanhe Village, Tianba Town, Zhenyuan Autonomous County for Yi, Hani and Lahu Ethnic Groups, Pu’er City of Yunnan Province, there is a primary school called “GCL Hope Primary School”. It was built on the 200,000 yuan donation by GCL in 2006 for helping the education of local kids. Since establishment of the school, GCL has kept providing various assistance and donations for it.
In July 2010, GCL donated a number of books and stationery to the school and set up “GCL Reading Corners”; in the meantime, GCL provided a whole set of study tools and sports products for each of the student of GCL Hope Primary School. In addition, GCL set up “GCL scholarship” via Yunnan Project Hope Office and grant the scholarship to students with outstanding performance every year.
In August 2011, after learning that all desks and chairs had been too worn for teaching at Sanhe GCL Hope Primary School in Tianba Town, Yunnan’s Pu’er City, GCL Shanghai Branch organized three charity bazaars among their employees and collected a fund of 28, 000 yuan for replacing all desks and chairs for the school. In October 2011, the branch again donated 10,000 yuan to GCL scholarship. In 2012, together with Shanghai-based “China Business Network”, GCL shot a TV program called “Good Workplace Examples 2012”, looking for teachers to support local education. -
GCL gave donations to Shadi Primary School for Fishermen’s Children in Guangdong’s Shangchuan Island
Shadi Primary School for Fishermen’s Children in Shangchuan Island, Guangdong’s Jiangmen City is known as the remotest school on the island. Due to poor economic conditions and inconvenient transportation, the school has outdated facilities. In March 2010, GCL Guangdong Branch donated a “GCL Sports Equipment Room” and computers to the school. In June 2011, the branch made another donation of “GCL Reading Corner” to the school, giving schoolbags to each student and 18 office desks for teachers to improve their working environment. In the meantime, GCL donated study aids to five poverty-stricken students from March 2010, and by far GCL has presented four batches of such study aids. For two years, GCL has donated some 80,000 yuan as study aids to Shangchuan Island.

GCL gave donation to Beijing Yanqing Xiangying School
In 2007, GCL reached Xiangying School in Beijing’s Yanqing County and jointly established “GCL Hand-in-hand Library”. GCL employees selected 400 books about science and Olympic Games that are worth over 6,000 yuan for students and teachers. They represented the care and love from GCL for the children, as well as the sincere wish for their healthy growth.
In 2008, GCL especially invited some 40 teachers and students of Xiangying School to Beijing for the well-organized “GCL Beijing Love Outreaching Journey”.
On July 26-30, 2010, when Shanghai World Expo was staged, with the help of GCL, students of Xiangying School gained a precious opportunity to attend “Sister Understanding” Shanghai World Expo Summer Camp! They visited 14 popular pavilions including China Pavilion, British Pavilion, Denmark Pavilion, and Urban Future Pavilion, greatly extending their vision.
On September 20, 2011, to encourage students of Xiangying School to study harder, GCL granted “GCL, I Care” scholarship to 24 students of Xiangying School, who are outstanding both in study and morality. To support the all-round development of students of Xiangying School, GCL also donated name plates and funds for operation to Xiangying School Martial Arts Talent Class.
Since 2007 GCL has kept helping Xiangying School in the “Paired Study Aid” activities. For years, GCL employees have conducted numerous love outreaching activities based on the charitable idea of “People first and return the favor to the society”. They were there to help more kids and their dreams of a better life! -
GCL launched study aid for Shanchegou Primary School of Lantian County
In 2011, GCL conducted a charity donation activity in Lanqiao Town, Lantian County of Shaanxi’s Xi’an City, donating computers, stationery and books to local Shanchegou Primary School and poverty-hit farmers. GCL also planted trees as the symbol of GCL’s love and care in the playground of the school, wishing the children could grow by the trees.

GCL funded “Red Phoenix Project” of Shaanxi Women’s Federation
In February 2009, GCL donated 200,000 yuan to “Red Phoenix Project” of Shaanxi Women’s Federation to help poor female university students to finish their study. In April and October of the same year, GCL held “Meeting of Students Receiving GCL Red Phoenix Project Grants” and “2009 Autumn Meeting of Students Receiving GCL Red Phoenix Project Grants”. Every time the meeting between female university students who had received the funding support and GCL employees would end with laughter and happy tears as the witness of the strong bond between them.

GCL conducted poverty relief in Lianshan, Guangdong
Zhonghe Village of Xiaosanjiang Township, Lianshan County, Qingyuan City of Guangdong is one of the poorest villages in Guangdong with the help of the insurance industry of Guangdong together with Guangdong Bureau of the China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC). In December 2010, GCL Charity Foundation donated 20,000 yuan cash to Zhonghe Village Committee, as well as 126 new quilts to villagers. A year later, GCL Charity Foundation gave another donation of more than 13,000 yuan to Reconstruction Project for Healthy and Safe Water Use of Zhonghe Primary School, and donated flasks to 50 households with disabled family members. The total amount of the two donations reached about 70,000 yuan.

GCL gave donations to the tsunami-hit area of the Indian Ocean
In the end of 2004, a sudden tsunami on the Indian Ocean heavily struck South Asian and Southeast Asian countries. To help relieve the disaster-hit areas, in February 2005 GCL and Consulate General of Thailand jointly promoted “Love Outreaching Policy” plan, giving a donation of 10 yuan of each new policy to the people of the disaster-hit areas.

GCL gave donation and helped people suffered from snow and ice disaster in South China
In February 2008, 17 provinces and municipalities in South China were hit by severe snows and ice which will not occur even in half a century. To help those in the disaster-hit areas spend a warm Spring Festival, GCL made donations up over 235,000 yuan through Red Cross Society of China and sent warmth and hope to people suffering in the severe cold.

GCL made donations for Wenchuan quake-stricken areas
After the great tremor hit Sichuan’s Wenchuan on May 12, 2008, the conditions of the people in the quake-hit areas have been a great concern for all employees of GCL all the time. Instantly GCL made a donation of 300,000 yuan to Red Cross Society of China in the company’s name, helping people in the stricken area out of difficulty. In addition, GCL employees actively responded to the call of help, and donated over 210,000 yuan to Red Cross Society of China.

GCL gave donations to Yushu quake-stricken areas
On April 14, 2010, a 7.1-scale earthquake struck Yushu County of Yushu Prefecture in Qinghai, followed by another 6.3-scale aftershock at 9:25, causing significant casualty and property damage, and shortage of rescue materials. GCL made a swift donation of 100,000 yuan to the quake-stricken area, making it the first insurer giving the donation. On April 22, Dongguan Sales and Market Service Department of GCL Guangdong Branch launched a donation with the title “Our hearts and love go to Yushu”, and collected 10,200 yuan. On April 29, GCL Sichuan Branch donated insurance worth 8 million yuan to the rescue team of Sichuan Provincial Department of Health to Yushu quake-stricken areas.

GCL lent a helping to young leukemia patient
In the second half of 2011, GCL Charity Foundation gave donations of 5,000 yuan and 10,000 yuan respectively to young leukemia patients, the 13-year-old Hu Liehang in Guangzhou and university student Zheng Guyu, for their treatment. GCL also organized volunteers to visit them in the hospital, encourage them to fight against the disease with a brave heart. The family of the patients were grateful and wrote letters of thanks for the kind help of GCL.

TO PROTECT THE ECOSYSTEM, GCL MADE A DONATION FOR BUILDING A MANGROVE FOREST
In mid July 2008, Generali China Life Insurance Co., Ltd (GCL) Guangdong Branch donated RMB 20,000 to Guangdong Environmental Protection Foundation, the only provincial environmental protection charity organization in Guangdong, for building a mangrove forest covering an area of eight mu in the coastal areas of Zhanjiang. Mangroves are known as "coastal guard". However, in the past 20 years, with the serious destruction of mangroves, the impact of typhoons, tsunamis, red tides and other disasters on the coastal areas have become increasingly serious. The public welfare fund donated by the Guangdong Branch was raised in the reusable bag bazaar activity with the theme of "We Love a Harmonious Environment" launched by the branch all over the province. For this, GCL was also awarded the certificate of honor issued by Guangdong Environmental Protection Foundation.

TO PROTECT LUEHDORFIA, GCL STAFF PICKED UP RUBBISH AT ZIJIN MOUNTAIN
In August 2009, GCL Jiangsu Branch participated in the public benefit activity of "picking up rubbish in the scenic spot to protect the habitat of Chinese luehdorfia". Zijin Mountain is the natural "green lung" of the ancient city of Nanjing. However, in recent years, the rubbish discarded by some tourists has deteriorated the living environment of many wild animals inhabiting Zijin Mountain, including Chinese luehdorfia which is a national second-class protected animal species. Staff of the Jiangsu Branch picked up rubbish at Zijin Mountain in Nanjing, creating a good living environment for Chinese luehdorfia.
